BECOME A PATIENT

How can I access care?

Whoever you are, whatever your current situation, free clinics are here for you and are a lifeline to quality care regardless of your ability to pay. To become a patient, please visit our Find a Clinic page where you will be able to find the clinic most convenient to your home and request information.

Lost Medicaid Coverage?

New changes at the state and federal level may affect your Medicaid health coverage – but whether you qualify for Medicaid coverage or not, Virginia’s free and charitable clinics are available to provide you with quality and comprehensive healthcare.

If you no longer qualify for health coverage from Virginia Medicaid, free and charitable clinics can still support you. While each individual clinic has its own eligibility requirements, we have clinics that serve Medicaid and non-Medicaid patients. Find a Clinic. Whatever your healthcare coverage status it’s important to not delay preventative care. Schedule a check-up with a free clinic today.

Who are our patients?

Every day, people like you receive quality care at free clinics. They are baristas, construction workers, moms, dads, teachers, neighbors, college graduates, and more.

  • Some of our patients may have had insurance in the past and lost their employer-sponsored coverage in the wake of the pandemic.
  • Others may not qualify for Medicaid despite Virginia’s expansion and can’t afford the high cost of private insurance.
  • And some of the patients we treat have insurance but struggle to afford their deductibles or other out-of-pocket expenses.

Will I receive quality care at a free clinic?

This is something we hear again and again. And simply put, the answer is a resounding yes! A free clinic is not urgent care or emergency care. It is not a stop gap or last resort option. Our free clinics strive to form long-term relationships with patients and become a medical home base so people can live their best lives.

Many patients report that the level of care at a free clinic is as comprehensive as care from any primary or specialty practice.
